8th Pay Commission Latest News: The 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC) will hold meetings with unions, associations, central government organisations and institutions in New Delhi and Pune over the coming weeks, according to official communication. The Commission said it will also conduct separate meetings in Mumbai and other states at a later stage. Dates for these meetings are yet to be announced.

In a letter dated April 11, 2026, Anand Kumar Jha, Director, 8th CPC, stated that the Commission will visit Pune, Maharashtra, on May 4 and 5.

Central government employees and pensioners are awaiting the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission, with discussions continuing around potential revisions in salaries and pensions.

Key issues under consideration include the fitment factor, implementation timeline, pay revision and arrears.

8th Pay Commission Latest News: Fitment Factor

The fitment factor, which is used to calculate revised salaries and pensions, remains a crucial component. It is determined on the basis of inflation, employee needs and the government’s financial position. Reports indicate that the factor for the 8th Pay Commission may be in the range of 2.57 to 3.25.

The government had notified the constitution of the 8th Pay Commission on January 17, 2025. Revised pay scales are expected to come into effect from January 1, 2026.

However, past trends indicate that implementation may take time. The 7th Pay Commission was implemented in about two-and-a-half years, while the 6th and 5th Pay Commissions took around two years and three-and-a-half years, respectively.
